Restoring to religion its deep meaning, which is to unite, His Holiness Lord HAMSAH MANARAH makes us aware of the causes of violence and teaches us the Knowledge that leads to non-violence. This Knowledge speaks to the intelligence of the heart. It calls for a transformation that cannot be separated from practice: the doctrine of Aumism makes non-violence the first condition of true happiness and of Fusion in God, the ultimate goal of human evolution.

TALK

In the course of daily life, it is important not to shut ourselves up in a passive indifference that makes us accomplices of violence. To be fully human is to be at one in heart with other people. Jaime Torres Bodet, a former director of UNESCO, wrote:

“A man dies in me each time that in Asia, or on the bank of a river in Africa or America, or in the garden of a European city, a man’s bullet kills a man.”

Feeling concerned by violence in all its forms, which murders, wounds, mutilates and terrifies so many children, women and men throughout the world, breathes into us the desire to “do something”.

Today many clear-sighted individuals, bodies and associations are working to protect the planet from human folly through greater solidarity, economic and social justice, long-term planning and mediation in the handling of conflicts.

Aumism, with its own specific features and its heritage from the great traditions, makes an infinitely precious contribution to the coming of a world of Peace. The Teaching of His Holiness Lord HAMSAH MANARAH restores to religion its deep meaning and its true function, which is to unite:

– first, by making us aware of the causes of division and violence,

– second, by revealing the Knowledge that leads to non-violence,

– third, by encouraging the daily practice of non-violence.

This is what we will discuss here.

1 – THE CAUSES OF DIVISION AND VIOLENCE ACCORDING TO AUMISM

Given the time available, we will only outline a few main points:

– At the outset: the feeling of separateness.

In everyday life, a person who remains at the level of matter and appearances shuts himself up in a fragmented vision of the world. He separates matter and spirit, the visible and the invisible, man and nature, people from one another, man and God. He is a prisoner of duality, of the feeling of separateness, which leads to oppositions, to strategies of segregation and domination, and to all forms of totalitarianism and all the physical and mental violence that causes so much suffering on earth.

Violence in every field rests on ignorance, which gives rise to reactions of fear, possessiveness and aggressiveness.

Ramakrishna gives an example showing how religious oppositions are born: “It is the story of four blind men who came together one day to examine an elephant. The first touched the animal’s leg and said: ‘The elephant is like a pillar.’ The second felt the trunk and said: ‘The elephant is like a club.’ The third blind man felt the belly and declared: ‘The elephant is like a big jar.’ Finally the fourth moved one of the animal’s ears and said in his turn: ‘The elephant is like a large winnowing basket.’ Then they began to argue about it.”

It took a passer-by to describe the elephant to them in its overall reality. Ramakrishna concludes: “Thus do those quarrel who have seen only one aspect of the divinity.” This is the starting point of wars of religion.

– Inevitably, violence is kept alive by the cycle of revenge:

Lord HAMSAH MANARAH explains: “Hatred is perpetuated from century to century through attachment to the past. This past imprisons peoples in the stereotypes of heavy memories, which serve as a pretext for new divisions and new wars.” (Vers un Âge d’Or d’Unité, p. 183)

In every sphere, collective as well as individual, this cycle of revenge endlessly turns today’s victim into tomorrow’s executioner. This is the infernal karma characteristic of the Age of wars and divisions, called the Iron Age, in which people tear one another apart and go so far as to persecute and kill the Bodies of God. Let us recall here the consequences of failing to respect the kingdoms of nature: as we have seen, the various kingdoms take revenge on the humans who torture them, answering violence with violence.

– The weight of evil thoughts and actions is the breeding ground of human violence.

“We are all,” says Lord HAMSAH MANARAH, “individually and collectively responsible for the wars that arise from the actions performed and the thoughts emitted in the present life and during previous incarnations. Our evil thoughts and actions, our hatred, feed rivers of the same nature. From them result crimes, accidents, epidemics and disasters.” (Le Yoga de l’Amour dans la Force, p. 297)

The Aumist Teaching makes us aware that the process of violence is often rooted in a forgotten past and that we keep feeding it. But at the same time, this Teaching reveals to us the possibility of reversing the process.

2 – THE KNOWLEDGE THAT LEADS TO NON-VIOLENCE

After waging the Battles to restore to humanity its freedom to choose the Golden Age, the Age of Peace, the Messiah brings the Knowledge that helps to change mentalities.

– The Messianic Revelation is a proclamation of universal brotherhood and love, revealing:

– the Unity of the Faces of God, that is to say that God is One whatever Name is given to Him: it is human beings who divide Him,

– the Unity of man with God, who is present in each of us,

– the Unity of all beings, for all carry the same creative spark of the Divine.

The Principle of Unity is the foundation of the Golden Age moral Laws, which advocate solidarity, sharing and true love (see the 12 Golden Age Laws in La Loi d’Évolution des Âmes, ch. XX).

– The Doctrine of Aumism encourages non-violence.

Lord HAMSAH MANARAH sums it up in “5 Truths” on death, suffering, pain, evolution and the ultimate goal to be reached (L’Aumisme, la Doctrine de l’Âge d’Or, p. 337).

We will review them and see that all of them oblige us first to transmute the violence within ourselves.

Death is only a stage for the soul, which continues to evolve in the Column of Light, where it must acquire a Golden Age mentality. It can no longer reincarnate until it has transmuted hatred and violence. The consequence: we must work from now on to free ourselves from the desire to suffer or to make others suffer.

Suffering and pain, in the Golden Age, are no longer valued or even sanctified. Their only function is to act as a spur to make us aware of our errors and of our refusals to evolve. It is therefore up to us to avoid them by thinking and acting rightly, without any wish to harm, knowing that, according to the Law of cause and effect, we bear the consequences of our behaviour.

Evolution is the forward movement of all beings, step by step, up to the Divine. We humans, who have reached the summit of the Evolutionary Pyramid, must move towards the higher step, which is the Divine, while of course protecting the kingdoms of Nature within which our consciousness has evolved!

The ultimate goal to be reached is the goal proposed by Aumism: Fusion in God, which is at once supreme happiness and the highest contribution to the evolution of the world. For the Founder of Aumism, the object of authentic religion is not “a groping towards the Supreme Being through rites and the limitations of dogmas”, but “the experience of Unity” (Yoga et Sagesse, p. 277).

“Religion is what makes it possible to link individual consciousness to cosmic Consciousness” (La Voix de Lumière, p. 371).

Lord HAMSAH MANARAH has fused totally in God. He gives us the methods that make Aumism the “short path” leading those who make the required effort to Spiritual Liberation. Of course, as in all Traditions, to walk towards Fusion in God, who is Love, we must free ourselves from violence and open ourselves to Universal Love.

The Lord expresses the feeling of Unity and the Divine Compassion of the realised Being:

“Man or woman, if you meet somewhere

A senseless being who calls himself my enemy,

Or who simply behaves as such

By his words and deeds, tell him that he is in me,

And that I give him my peace…” (Le Yoga de l’Amour dans la Force, p. 49)

Thus the Doctrine of Aumism, which the Lord calls the “Doctrine of life”, makes physical and mental non-violence the first condition of authentic human happiness and of the path towards divinisation.

At every level, Divine Knowledge speaks to the intelligence of the heart. It gives the impulse for a new beginning. In French, connaître (to know) is also co-naître: to be born with, to be reborn through an inner transformation, which alone can change our behaviour and our way of acting.

3 – THE PRACTICE OF NON-VIOLENCE

Aumism is neither a spiritual comfort nor a “head in the clouds” ideal. It is, according to its Founder, “an active and dynamic philosophy that enables us, by simple and concrete means accessible to all, to build together, beyond races, classes and beliefs, the new values of our humanity” (Périple d’un Yogi et Initié d’Occident, p. 172).

– Aumists strive in concrete ways to follow the Founder’s example.

To help us put His Teaching into practice, His Holiness Lord HAMSAH MANARAH sets the example on the Path of a well-understood non-violence. In particular:

– He Himself pays homage to the Divinity in his disciples and in every human being, encouraging us to mutual respect.

– He has granted humanity the Great Pardon, which frees it from the heavy past, as a springboard for a new beginning: “I have forgiven everyone, men and women, to put an end to karma and to the prevailing climate of hatred (…) If you follow the example of the almighty Lord, you will find the strength and courage to forgive your tormentors.” (Vers un Âge d’Or d’Unité, p. 177)

– He has set the example of non-violence in the face of intolerance. Bearer of an extraordinary Message of brotherhood, Lord HAMSAH MANARAH, like other Founders of religions, was the target of violent persecutions. But He urged his disciples to prayer and calm. The intolerant went so far as to dynamite, in the very grounds of the monastery, the statue of the MESSIAH, a symbol of peace. Yet in doing so they revealed to the eyes of the world the non-violence of the Aumist religion, which goes hand in hand with Strength and with the struggle of perseverance.

Indeed, “I see in non-violence,” said Gandhi, “a form of struggle more energetic and more authentic than the simple law of retaliation, which only ends up doubling the wickedness.”

Faithful to the Teaching of His Holiness Lord HAMSAH MANARAH, Aumists attach major importance to everything that can make violence recede in the world. Among other things, as we partly mentioned during the symposium:

– The search for a personal balance between body and mind, which fosters good communication with others.

– An education in respect, in the family, at school and in sports and leisure clubs, restoring to adults their role as examples at every level of society.

– Social justice, the search for balance in the distribution of the planet’s wealth, and the sharing of knowledge, to put an end to the violence born of poverty.

– An ecology in which humanity assumes its duties towards future generations.

– Ethics and the evolution of science, which must henceforth refuse any destructive action and place itself fully at the service of humanity.

– And of course meetings and dialogues, which help religions to move beyond their oppositions.

Let us recall here the importance of religious non-violence:

– The prayers and meditations, the rituals and the Sacraments of Aumism open the heart to the Unity of the Faces of God by celebrating God under His different Names. You will have a glimpse of this when you listen to the songs of the choir.

– The motto it proposes speaks to the heart of people of goodwill from all Traditions:

“Love, forgive, serve, meditate, realise the Divine within.”

– Aumists demonstrate that it is possible for people of all races, cultures and religions to unite and pray together for peace with the Sound OM, the first Name of God.

– Lord HAMSAH MANARAH insists on consistency between prayer, thought and action:

“Repeated formulas and outward practices are nothing if the heart does not grow wider and if man goes on wallowing in the mire of jealousy, slander, selfishness and hatred.” (L’Unité des Visages de Dieu, p. 385)

“One cannot claim to love God while killing one’s neighbour to defend one’s Faith.” (Le Flambeau d’Unité, p. 69)

– Lucidity and vigilance are essential so as not to repeat the errors of history and not to sink one day into sectarianism and fanaticism.

“In the Name of God,” says the Lord, “people have killed, plundered, raped and slaughtered one another, hating their neighbour. In the Name of God, the Truth of Unity has been betrayed, and that is why I have intervened at the end of time, at the end of the night, to put an end to this war of steeples.” (Je suis l’Avatar de Synthèse, p. 68)

And the Founder of Aumism, reincarnating through the Lineage of the HIEROKARANTINE, will ensure that this religion remains a “Bridge of Unity” between peoples and Traditions. He gives this warning to His disciples:

“I would not like people in times to come to tear one another apart and end up shedding blood in my Name (…) So be vigilant as regards the young shoots of Aumism…” (L’Aumisme, la Doctrine de l’Âge d’Or, p. 39)

– Aumism offers means of developing non-violence

The written work of His Holiness Lord HAMSAH MANARAH places at our disposal the techniques for escaping the cycles of hatred, beginning with ourselves, at the conscious and unconscious levels. Some of them were presented to you during the symposium. Their effectiveness depends on regular and balanced practice in a benevolent attitude. Let us remember that every personal effort is a contribution to planetary peace. Everyone can be useful, wherever they are.

To limit outer violence, we must combine prayer, the repetition of the Sound OM, whose benefits have been mentioned, and action suited to the circumstances, in a spirit of service. Each Aumist takes part individually in the actions of their choice, according to their circumstances. Whether or not one can act in the field, one can always use the power of creative thought (which was the subject of a talk at the 2004 symposium).

“Through your beneficial thoughts, generate a powerful current of peace, brotherhood and true love, strong enough to ward off war and social conflicts.” (L’Unité des Visages de Dieu, p. 390)

IN CONCLUSION, we will recall the Message of Peace of the Aumist religion, the Message of Unity in respect for differences:

“GOD is the same for all and present in each of us.”

And we will hear the call of His Holiness Lord HAMSAH MANARAH (L’Aumisme, p. 313):

“We invite all human beings, believers and unbelievers, to direct thoughts of goodwill towards the peoples, the nations and the heads of state (…) Let us ask all people of goodwill to say this short prayer:” (let us imagine a light in concentric circles over the Earth)

OM

May Love, Harmony and Peace

Reign among all men,

All peoples, all nations.

May the Golden Age

Crystallise on Earth

OM

Ramakrishna: Enseignement, presented by J.
