FORGIVING OTHERS

Only forgiveness can stop the hatreds and vengeances that hold us in the past. Without denying the harm caused, it leads us towards more love and fraternity. That is why the Golden Age is the Age of forgiveness.

“Grant yourselves the joy of being freed from oppositions between people, from ‘friend-enemy’ oppositions, from the inner dualities that tear seekers of truth apart and prolong the ‘inner Iron Age’.”

Everyone can experience the benefits of forgiveness.

For example, if you have built up grievances against someone and wish to improve the relationship, before opening a dialogue “forgive him mentally for all the faults and mistakes you accuse him of having committed against you, then, still mentally, ask his forgiveness for all the faults and mistakes you may have committed, consciously or unconsciously, towards him.” (La Loi d’Evolution des Ames, p. 226)

Seeing the Divine in the other makes this step easier; it frees both the other person and yourself from resentment.

Forgiveness, which sometimes requires long work to detach oneself from certain memories, is the luminous force that makes all reconciliations possible:

“If people know how to forgive one another, if they know how to forget the past,

border disputes will subside, civil wars will diminish,

and war, the cruel expression of hatred, will at last disappear for ever.“
