THE VALUE OF LIFE

It is possible that, obsessed by purely material concerns, we have more or less lost sight of the vulnerability of our human condition. Like other acute and global crises, the pandemic, with the number of its victims published daily (sometimes even with the loss of a loved one), brutally confronts us (again) with the finiteness of our lives… But it also invites us to regenerating realisations:

– That of our inner resources: “On the one hand we are humans with this known vulnerability; on the other we share in the divinity. This latter realisation must not only comfort us in moments of dejection due to ordeals, but strengthen us enough to arouse Strength and Courage…” (La Réintégration Divine par le Yoga, p. 97)

– That of the value of our existence. To meditate on the meaning and use of our life, both precious and ephemeral, here are some of the questions we can ask ourselves: “Have I done well? Have I thought well? Have I acted well? With whom must I be reconciled? Whom must I ask for forgiveness? Whom must I absolutely forgive? What goals must I set myself for my own transformation and the evolution of my fellow beings?” (La Loi d’Evolution des âmes, p. 325)

If we feel we have not accomplished all that we could or would have liked to do, let us not sink into guilt. We can strive from now on to evolve as well as possible:

– By gradually freeing ourselves from dependence on things and beings, so as to move towards the serenity of the sages who come to feel they are “temporary managers” of their material possessions and who rid their affections of possessiveness, without for all that giving up loving fully.

– By giving a luminous meaning to our daily lives through the following means: harmonising our relationships through benevolence, tolerance and reconciliation; acting in solidarity with others and with our environment; generating thoughts of compassion and positive thoughts.

– By also praying (for example by repeating the OM) to ease the suffering in the world, to help the souls of the departed, and to foster in ourselves and our fellow beings the feeling of unity and respect for all that lives.

Thus the spectacular emergence of human fragility can help us become aware once more of the unalterable force of Love present in each of us, and to choose to express it.
