Observing one’s reactions
We are not always aware that we live by reflexes: we are not often given the chance to step back and observe them. Here is one, with this question asked in La Loi d’Evolution des âmes, p. 477:
“You see a man fall on the pavement and break his leg. What do you do?”
There are 3 possible reactions:
1. Indifference, which makes one selfishly walk on by.
2. Hatred, which makes one exclaim: “Serves him right.”
3. Solidarity, which makes one take care of the unfortunate man.
“The third reaction is the only one appropriate to the ideal of Justice which should drive each and every one of us”, Lord HAMSAH MANARAH tells us. And this, whoever the injured person may be.
Let us also remember the magnificent extension of the service rendered: “Once you are completely healed,” the rescuer says to the suffering man, “do not forget that if some fall before you, you must, out of solidarity, help them out of the rut, as I have just done with you today.”
Thus a current of mutual help is born, allowing everyone, after a physical or moral ordeal, to rebuild themselves stronger and more generous. It is the springboard of an evolution that can spread, step by step, throughout humanity, a compassion that goes hand in hand with a sense of justice.
Let us not forget: “The Golden Age is above all the gesture of the hand held out to the one who suffers.”
