Accepting differences

“Hatred of difference gives birth to intolerance.” (Vers un Age d’Or d’Unité, p. 552)
It drives people to belittle, subjugate or even eliminate part of humanity, and we see it mingling with wars whatever their excuses. Racism, sexism, ideological and religious fanaticism and so on dehumanise both victims and executioners. To break free of this, the International Day for Tolerance reminds us that it is important to accept diversity as a richness.
In Aumism, respect for the Divine in each person goes hand in hand with respect for human dignity. [1]

“True unity is not the crushing of opposites

but their reconciliation, respecting the cultural specificity of each person.”

(La Révolution du monde des vivants et des morts, p. 443) [2]

To avoid feeding, on our own scale, the intolerance that fractures the world, it is useful to root out the stigmatisation made commonplace by habit; to identify and dismantle our reflexes of contempt and our sectarian attitudes; and to go out and meet people instead of fixing them from the outset in stereotypes…
Lord HAMSAH MANARAH urges us to see ourselves as citizens of the whole Earth: “This mentality of a citizen without borders makes it possible to open heart and mind to difference, to be tolerant towards each and every one, and to accept differences of views and opinions.” (Vers un Age d’Or d’Unité, p. 27)
Believers or not, we can also chant the AUM (or OM), which is “the blazing fire of Love and Unity” for all human beings without distinction.
