Purifying one’s mind
The return after the summer invites a fresh start towards greater well-being, in particular the well-being that comes from managing one’s thoughts positively. “Be pure in your thoughts”, says Lord HAMSAH MANARAH:
“Your success is assured
if you forever fight and destroy the roots of your thoughts
and know how to stay free from the climbing ivy of other people’s thoughts.”
(La Loi d’Evolution des Ames, p. 168)
1. Let us avoid sending out hateful thoughts. They are harmful to those they are aimed at, who receive these active though invisible arrows, and to oneself, for they come back to the sender! These thoughts also join the river of destructive thoughts that perpetuate wars… So if they escape us, let us not forget to neutralise them with thoughts of love towards the people concerned. It is a contribution to peace. [1]
2. Moreover, let us not be destabilised by the hostile thoughts of others. “Remaining pure in one’s mind means not being affected by spiteful words, by sneers of hatred, by slander, by other people’s lack of love, by ingratitude.” (Le Flambeau d’Unité, p. 345) Moving towards this emotional balance protects us from suffering, from knee-jerk reactions and from the resentment that fuels conflicts. It is the first step towards a selfless love, able to give without expecting anything in return.
Lightening one’s mind in this way brings greater happiness. To help us, the Aumist Teaching offers many techniques for refocusing. [2] Here, for example, is a quick and effective one:
“Breathe slowly and deeply while reciting the OM Sound inwardly in a prolonged way, on the in-breath as on the out-breath. This repetition calms frayed nerves, sweeps away emotions, clears agitated thoughts and restores serenity.” (La Loi d’Evolution des Ames, p. 435)
