No. 4 – THE PRAYER OF THE OM AND ITS BENEFITS
THE PRAYER OF THE OM AND ITS BENEFITS
Many Traditions refer to the Creative Word, for example:
For Christianity, in the Gospel of John: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by him; in him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
For Hinduism, in the 3 Upanishads: “Through the word, BRAHMA created the forms of the universes.”
For Buddhism, in the Diamond Vehicle: “From this sacred breath of the Absolute BUDDHA, creation was born.”
But what, then, is this Word?
It is the Sound AUM, which is found in Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, but also in the form of amen among Christians and amin among Muslims. AUM is at the origin of the name Aumism, of which it is the basic prayer.
His Holiness the Lord HAMSAH MANARAH writes:
“The Sound Aum is the Divine Name; it is the most powerful Sound,
it is the symbol of the Supreme Reality,
it is the eternal Word, the Manifestation of God.”[1]
We will therefore see how the Divine Gift of the OM can help all men and all women without exception to be happier and to build the new Era.
1 – The creative power of the Sound OM
2 – The importance of the OM for building the Golden Age
3 – The different ways of repeating it
4 – The benefits of this repetition
This talk draws largely on the book L’Aumisme, la Doctrine de l’Âge d’Or.
1 – THE CREATIVE POWER OF THE SOUND OM
AUM is the creative Word
It is the primordial Sound that God uttered to create the universes.[2] OM, “the creative projection of the transcendent consciousness”,[3] contains A.U.M. AUM is the source of all the sounds of the Universe. It expresses the highest Spiritual Reality:
– The A represents the physical plane,
– The U the mental plane,
– The M the spiritual plane.
AUM therefore allows everyone to regenerate themselves
It helps the human being at every level: it purifies the body and the psyche and raises one’s vibratory rate. It is the Breath of the Absolute in the different planes of manifestation, which allows the soul to rise back to God. By transmitting the Sound OM to us, His Holiness the Lord HAMSAH MANARAH gives us an extraordinary power to make a fresh start and to enter the new Era.
2 – THE IMPORTANCE OF THE OM FOR BUILDING THE GOLDEN AGE
“The AUM is the spiritual Diamond of the New Age.”[4]
The AUM brings the Energy of Unity needed to build the new Era.
– In the Golden Age, love must triumph over hatred. AUM is “the song of love”, “the song of infinite Compassion”, which opens human hearts to fraternity and solidarity.
– In the Golden Age, divisions must come to an end: the Sound OM restores Unity, in respect for differences, between people and between religions.
“In the AUM there is neither white nor black,” says the Lord,
“In the AUM there is neither Christian nor Muslim,
In the AUM there is neither Jew nor Buddhist. (…)
In the AUM there is Unity in multiplicity.”[5]
– In the Golden Age, human beings rediscover their unity with God, for the Sound OM awakens each person “to the mystery of their own heart”. Through the OM, man enters into communion with the Divine present within himself.
The prayer of the OM helps all human beings build the Golden Age together.
It is the Ark of the Covenant between men and women, all of whom, without distinction, are concerned by the rescue of their planet. Everyone can benefit from this divine Energy whatever their belief, for it is the first Name of God at the origin of all religions; it is “the Universal Name of the Absolute”.[6]
– Everyone can benefit from it even if they are not a believer, for the prayer of the OM requires no religious commitment. His Holiness makes this clear: “Make the Sound Om your bedside prayer, and even if you do not believe in God at first, test its miraculous effects on your body, which will become harmonised…”[7] The repetition of the OM helps develop the strength of love needed to build the Golden Age within oneself and in the world. But how is it done in practice?
3 – THE DIFFERENT WAYS OF PRAYING WITH THE SOUND OM
OM is the first of the “mantras”. A mantra is a condensed sacred formula. The more one repeats it, the more one develops the corresponding Divine Energy within oneself. The OM corresponds to a white light that can be visualised while pronouncing it.
It is important to repeat the OM in a quiet place reserved for prayer
– Depending on the way the AUM is repeated, one obtains the effects listed by the Lord HAMSAH MANARAH:
“Chant the AUM aloud and you will purify the atmosphere and crystallise good vibrations.
Chant it softly; it will calm your mind, foster concentration and aid healing.
Chant it mentally and you will more easily attain concentration, meditation and the inner strength that frees and delivers the soul.”[8]
– Aumists practise different Yogas, in particular “Japa Yoga”, or the repetition of the sacred Name, which fosters identification with the Divine Consciousness. One begins by blessing all human beings and the kingdoms of nature. Then one uses a rosary of 108 beads, the mala.
Certain rules must be observed
– The Lord HAMSAH MANARAH stresses the need for purification: given its power, the OM must imperatively be repeated with benevolence. Anyone with ill intentions suffers the consequences of misusing this sacred Sound.
– He stresses the need for moderation: one must be prudent and not try from the outset to do too many repetitions at once. It is better to be reasonable and to increase the time of prayer gradually.
– To develop the Energy of the OM within oneself, what counts is concentration, regularity and perseverance.
It is also important to repeat the OM in all circumstances
– One can spread the blessing of the OM wherever one is: in nature, to foster the evolution of minerals, plants and animals; in the street, at the supermarket, on the underground, in front of the television, to foster the evolution of human beings.
– One can spread the positive vibration of the OM while doing all kinds of activities at home or outside; one can say it mentally or aloud. While cooking, for example, it is a way of purifying and blessing the food.
4 – THE BENEFITS OF REPEATING THE SOUND OM
The OM regenerates the human being on all planes.
It helps everyone as death approaches
It is useful to know that, by concentrating on the OM, the soul erases its sins and the consequences of the sins committed during its life. “The AUM brings help, protection and divine inspiration. It soothes the mind and restores harmony in the soul that is suffering at leaving matter.”[9]
It helps everyone throughout their existence
– In everyday life
The Sound AUM promotes health. It erases bad thoughts. It protects against harmful psychic influences. At bedtime, on rising and throughout the day, it calms the mind and maintains a climate of optimism and harmony.
– In the face of difficulties
“The chant of the AUM gives life,” says the Lord HAMSAH MANARAH,
“The chant of the AUM keeps misfortunes away,
The chant of the AUM relieves all suffering,
The chant of the AUM will be your lifebuoy.”[10]
Thus, the sincere and benevolent prayer of the OM brings us many benefits. But in addition, it allows us to help those who need it, near or far, known or unknown.
CONCLUSION
Let us remember this Teaching, which is essential in the Aumist religion: “The AUM is the source that will bring about the rebirth of the Golden Age…”[11]
We will close with an extract from the song “OM is the song of Love”, a poem written by His Holiness the Lord HAMSAH MANARAH and set to music:
“OM is the song of Love,
The song of Eternity,
OM is the song of infinite Light.
OM is the bridge between the finite and the infinite (…)”
