CULTIVATING CALM
08.04.2020
The epidemic is also an epidemic of stress, of accumulated fears that unsettle us and make us lose confidence in ourselves and in our ability to cope. This is understandable. But more than ever, restoring and maintaining one’s emotional stability is a necessity.
This involves activating relationship support (contact by telephone or via the Internet with loved ones, relatives, friends…) or, in case of difficulty, calling on the professionals available during this period (for example via reliable psychological support helplines set up by the institutions).
In addition, at the individual level, it is possible for each of us, believer or non-believer, to put into practice a few simple techniques that can help us regain calm or keep it over time.
“Cultivating calm makes one less and less vulnerable to outside influences“, it has “a beneficial effect on health.” This has repercussions on those around us and on society.
Practising positive autosuggestion
“Fear fixes attention on the dark side of things, on the negative. It is pessimistic. It depresses and paralyses the faculties. We must neutralise it by opposing to it thoughts of courage, confidence, optimism and self-confidence.” (Le Yoga de la vie pratique)
Positive autosuggestion is a means of developing self-confidence: the method is explained in particular in the book quoted.
A suitable formula, accepted in the depths of oneself, is effective. Recorded, displayed and repeated, it impregnates the subconscious, makes the efforts made to succeed effective and supports the process of transformation in the chosen direction.
Technique for developing self-confidence
Use one formula at a time, for example:
“I am more and more calm and in control of myself.“
“My will is firmer and firmer.“
“I have more and more assurance and self-confidence.“
An important point: live in the awareness that one’s affirmation is being fulfilled.
Here is a possible complement before making an affirmation:
– Standing or sitting (facing North or East), relax. Breathe calmly.
– Send thoughts of peace, love, harmony, happiness, health and prosperity in all directions of space.
– Think: “I am in Unity with the Divine Consciousness.”
– Pronounce the chosen affirmation.
Mastering an unbridled imagination
Fear, together with a harmful imagination, unleashes the “cyclone of emotions”. The aim is to step back and exercise one’s reason and the vigilance required in the face of events.
Taken from the Meditation for mastering the imagination (in La Loi d’Evolution des Ames, ch. XXIV), here is an affirmation that can help us stay balanced:
“I am a Centre of strength, light and consciousness.
I master my mind better and better.
I am more and more positive in all circumstances.
Nothing negative can reach me.
I remain serene, calm and in control of myself in all circumstances.”
This affirmation can be accompanied by the repetition of the Sound OM.
