EASING RELATIONSHIPS
Being confined together is not always easy, even when people get on well. We must look after the morale of the household!
By repeating the Sound OM for our loved ones and striving to preserve our physical and mental balance, we will encourage them to share soothing practices.
Lockdown is a school of living together on an accelerated programme! It confronts us with the need for mutual respect, acceptance of differences, mutual help… Our understanding and affection will encourage everyone and give each person a sense of responsibility.
It is also important to avoid tensions and to know how to make up. This strengthens the bonds of love and cooperation. Here are two keys to help us:
Cancelling aggressive thoughts
Aumism, like many spiritual traditions and religions of East and West, holds that thought is creative. This encourages us to nourish thoughts of love, peace and benevolence, and to refrain from “harmful” thoughts. But if some slip out (which happens to every human being!), we believe it is possible to act on them, and therefore on their consequences: the work is both one of ethical awareness and one of spiritual alchemy. First by trying not to repeat the same aggressive mental pattern; then by neutralising the thoughts sent out, that is, by replacing them with a positive mental vibration. For example, by inwardly repeating the following formula:
“I cancel the thought of hatred sent out against So-and-so
and send him a thought of love, peace, harmony and unity.
May his soul forgive me and be reconciled with my inner God.”
(Vers un Age d’Or d’Unité, p. 185)
Forgiveness
In a number of situations that can “damage” a relationship, forgiveness helps us repair things, free ourselves from guilt and resentment, and restore goodwill:
“The first step is forgiveness of oneself, to avoid self-punishment.
The second step is to turn towards those who have harmed us,
who have harmed us the most, and say to them:
‘I forgive you the harm done.
May the Light be in your mind and Divine Love in your heart.’”
(Vers un Age d’Or d’Unité, pp. 177-178)
These soothing practices are not just for lockdown! They help to harmonise relationships in every situation.
