KEEPING YOUR DISCERNMENT

Those who, thanks to the media, inform us with objectivity and promote the necessary openness to the world, have an indispensable and positive role in our societies. We must thank them for this. However, the desire to influence opinion, the race for sensationalism, for ratings, leads others to play on the emotions, the prejudices, the credulity of readers and viewers.

Some media, including Internet sites, in disregard of any code of ethics, convey here and there infox, fake news, fake images and videos, propaganda, rumors etc. These cleverly disguised misleading broadcasts encourage us to take a step back, to verify, to choose and cross-check our sources of information : Lord HAMSAH MANARAH insists on “the freedom of judgment that must be safeguarded at all costs as the guarantor of the fundamental freedoms of men and women, living in a highly mediatized universe.”  (The Torch of Unity p. 200)

Moreover, the propagation of catastrophic scenarios generates anxiety and locks us into a fear of tomorrow. Let’s not forget the creative power of thought [1], Let us not fall into the trap of defeatism: on the contrary, this is the moment to mobilize our strengths, to change our behaviors in order to trace together the new paths of the future. [2]

And if an article, a program, the images of a film “take our head”, here p. 205, a technique within reach of all to release us from their impregnation:

“Protect yourself with the OM Sound,
slowly and deeply
in the center of the head repeated…” 

To keep one’s discernment, whatever the context, is to remain in possession of oneself, able to remain at the helm of one’s life.
