Accepting differences
« Hatred of difference breeds intolerance.. » (Vers un Age d’Or d’Unité, p. 552.)
It encourages the inferiorization, subjugation, and even elimination of part of humanity—and we see it intertwined with wars, regardless of their justifications. Racism, sexism, ideological and religious fanaticism, etc. dehumanize both victims and perpetrators. To overcome this, the International Day for Tolerance reminds us that it is important to accept diversity as a source of richness.
In Aumism, respect for the Divine in each person goes hand in hand with respect for human dignity..[1]
« True unity is not the crushing of opposites
but rather their reconciliation while respecting each person’s cultural specificity.. »(La Révolution du monde des vivants et des morts, p. 443.) [2]
To avoid, on our own scale, feeding the intolerance that divides the world, it is useful to root out the stigmatization that has become commonplace through habit; to identify and dismantle our reflexes of contempt and our sectarian attitudes, and to reach out to people instead of immediately pigeonholing them into stereotypes…
Lord HAMSAH MANARAH encourages us to consider ourselves citizens of the entire Earth: “This mentality of citizenship without borders allows us to open our hearts and minds to difference, to be tolerant of everyone, and to accept differences of views and opinions.” (Towards a Golden Age of Unity, p.27)
Whether we are believers or not, we can also chant AUM (or OM), which is “the blaze of Love and Unity” for all humans without distinction.
