A CALL TO YOUTH

To you, young people in this changing world, I say:

Remember at all times, my friends,
That you are the hope of humanity’s future;
That tomorrow’s happiness depends
On your actions every minute of every day;
That by the choice of your secret thoughts,
You are irrevocably forging your true destiny.

If you want to maintain a high standard of thinking,
Honoring the man of noble ambitions,
And help maintain a climate of harmony,
Educate yourself, cultivate yourself,
Learn to love all mankind,
Nature with its elements, its trees, its rocks,
Its animals, its sunsets
But also its storms and tempests,
The rain that invigorates
And purifies the stale air of cities.

Devote yourself to art, painting, music,
sculpture, photography;
Sports and martial arts.
Enjoy reading books that entertain
But prefer books that enrich
Your understanding of science,
Man and the Universe.

But, above all, emphasize
On cultivating the most beautiful flowers of the heart.
It’s important for you to know that envy, jealousy,
Lack of control of passions,
weakness, resignation, lack of courage,
Do not make a man great.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, everything that has been advocated for centuries
by classical humanist culture,
Spirit of sacrifice, desire to surpass oneself,
the sublimation of passions, the exaltation of heroism,
All this is still relevant today.
For the most effective transformation,
That which concerns all of society, regardless of class,
Though it is the least spectacular,
Is not a brutal revolution,
It’s a lasting and salutary inner reform.
O you who dream of doing great things,
Never forget that giving yourself to a cause,
presupposes an important condition: belonging…
It’s important to discover
That you’re not this body;
However beautiful and harmonious it may be
You don’t have to take pride in it.
Debilitated or weak, you don’t have either
To despise your rags of flesh
For your essence is divine.
And don’t forget that within you, the Supreme Self
Waits patiently to be recognized by yourself
The better to release the divine light
Hiding in your heart as in the heart of every being.
Don’t be ashamed to pray
Because of stupid friends
Apply yourself to repeating a sacred sound
It will help you in difficult moments.
Be attentive to the world, be realistic.
But stay away from places of perdition,
Where you’re exposed to negative contagion.

When you’ve earned your diplomas,
The position you want,
Try to make your life more harmonious.
Don’t waste your energies in a thousand directions.
Learn more about people’s psychology.
Look for intelligent role models,
Among the great servants of humanity.
Look for ways to emulate them,
Follow their example and serve yourself.

Beware of envy and do not despair,
If your intellectual means do not allow you
To shine in the world,
As politician, scholar, philosopher, poet.
To each being corresponds a task,
A mission on this earth,
However humble, it counts for humanity.
No matter what your mission may be,
Fulfill it with perfection,
Make every act an offering, a prayer
To the Transcendent Consciousness governing our Universe.
