THE AWAKENING OF ANAHATA AND AJNA IN THE MARRIAGE OF LOVE AND KNOWLEDGE

Yoguis associate the element air with the ANAHATA heart chakra. Tradition tells us so, and experience shows us that by concentrating on this chakra when awake, we hear the Divine sound.
The texts also state that those who meditate on this chakra master the air. He can fly through the air and flood himself with immense Divine Love. He also develops the highest qualities.

The heart is considered the seat of breath and transcendent Spirit. Man’s impurities and ignorance prevent him from taking refuge there. He loses himself in painful separateness. This makes it difficult to penetrate the secret of the YAM sound rising from the heart. It is the proclamation of I Am; I Am the MYSELF in Unity with Divine Consciousness.

The basic work of the right-minded aspirant is focused on the chakra that should be the main focus of attention for all those consciously progressing up the evolutionary ladder: the heart chakra. It is the gateway to High Wisdom. Jesus Christ himself said, in the Sermon on the Mount:
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

The two centers of the heart, Anahata and Ananda-Kanda, are the receptacles and generators of Love-Wisdom energy.

Through the sense of unity we feel with all beings, through this Love that excludes nothing and no-one, we can access the expansion of consciousness.

However, for individual hearts to resonate with the heart of the Universe, purification is essential. This alchemy implies the elimination of dross such as selfishness, jealousy, parasitic desires, envy, hatred and a sense of separateness.
To go very far along the path requires the marriage of Love and Knowledge. Our soul needs these two supports to move forward in balance. When the mental faculties are deficient, the aspirant is exposed to erroneous interpretations.
Extreme credulity, lack of analytical and critical faculties, lead to unfortunate deviations.
Superstition lies in wait for a free and naive heart, unprotected by an alert and well-trained mind.
Much love and little intellectual openness widen the discernment gap in extreme situations. A lively intelligence reigning over a dry heart feeds a pride that pushes us to excess.

We are thus logically led to believe that Love and Knowledge are the two pillars of True Wisdom.

In this section, we propose two types of meditation:
– One focusing on Anahata: the center of Love.
– The other on Ajna: the pole of Knowledge.

ANAHATA AWAKENING EXERCISE
1. Repeat 3 to 7 times OM at loud.
2. Direct thoughts of benevolence towards all beings, in the ten directions of space.
3. Place yourself in the lotus position.
4. Breathe according to the rhythm: X -4X- 2X.
5. Lean your chest forward while reciting the sound OM.
6. Place hands flat on each knee, so that “raised elbows form a triangle on either side of the chest”.
7. Visualize in the heart a glittering diamond surrounded by two concentric circles of light:
◦ Golden yellow around the diamond.
◦ Light blue surrounding the yellow.
8. Contemplate this whole, letting yourself be won over by an immense Love invading your heart and being, for humanity.
9. As the posture is not easy to hold for long, get up and repeat three more times.
10. End by blessing all beings and feeling at one with the Universe.

Note: Although this posture is useful for opening the heart chakra, those who haven’t yet acquired the required flexibility through assiduous Hatha Yoga practice will perform it as best they can.

THE FRUITS OF MEDITATION ON THE ANAHATA CHAKRA

According to tradition, meditation on the Anahata chakra produces the following results:
– He succeeds in dominating the Air element.
– Love for all beings grows.
– He develops clairvoyance and clairaudience.
– He masters the Word.
– He acquires the power to fly through the air.
– Yogui can enter the body of another man or animal, etc.

AJNA AWAKENING EXERCISE
1. Repeat the OM sound 3 to 7 times.
2. Send thoughts of Peace, Kindness and Love to the ten directions of space.
3. Breathe deeply several times.
4. Assume the lotus posture.
5. Adopt the rhythm appropriate to your level of training:
4-16-8
8-32-14 Caution is essential
12-48-24
6. Practice ocular convergence. Fix your gaze on the root of the nose, between the two eyebrows, while chanting the sound OM.
7. Close your eyes and mentally make the same convergence effort on the indicated point.
8. If difficulties arise, stop and repeat the physical and mental convergence.
9. After a certain number of experiments, lights and colors appear.
– Ajna and other elements can be perceived through the third eye.

Comments:
– It’s a good idea to gradually train for ocular convergence.
– If headaches occur, stop this exercise.
– With Prânayama directed towards Nadis purification and diet, these discomforts will disappear.

Benefits of Ajna meditation
Frequent concentration on the Ajna chakra brings the following benefits:
– He succeeds in destroying all the karma of his past lives.
– The yogi acquires the eight major and 32 minor siddhis.
– He attains the condition of Liberated, of Perfect.
Whatever Siddhis may develop within us, we must never lose sight of the goal of evolution: to achieve permanent and definitive Unity with Divine Consciousness.

The Initiate can repeat:
OM HAMSAH SOHAM SVAHA
This mantra enables identification with the Divine Breath, HAMSAH, which is also the Name of the Absolute.

As we repeat this mantra, let’s open ourselves to the almighty, beneficial force of the AIR element, which animates us, vitalizes us, transforms us, warms us and elevates us.
